Top Nuke Negotiator Embarks on US Trip

South Korea's top nuclear negotiator, Lee Do-hoon, departed for the U.S. on Wednesday.

The Foreign Ministry said that during his three-day stay, Lee will meet with his U.S. counterpart Joseph Yun as well as key officials of the National Security Council and State Department who handle North Korea-related affairs.

In his meeting with Yun, Lee is expected to explain the results of Tuesday's high-level inter-Korean talks, including agreements on North Korea's participation in the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games.

According to the ministry, Lee will assess the recent shift in relations between the two Koreas and extensively discuss ways to advance South-North ties and to peacefully resolve the North's nuclear issue.

Lee's U.S. visit comes on the heels of meetings with his Chinese and Japanese counterparts.
