N. Korean Delegation Visits Presidential Office in Seoul

The North Korean delegation to the PyeongChang Olympics is visiting the South Korean Presidential Office of Cheong Wa Dae.

The North Korean Supreme People's Assembly chief, Kim Young-nam, and leader Kim Jong-un's younger sister, Kim Yo-jong, arrived at the top office shortly before 11:00 a.m. Saturday for a luncheon with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

Led by Kim Young-nam, who is North Korea’s nominal head of state, the four-member delegation also includes Choe Hwi, chairman of the National Sports Guidance Committee, and Ri Son-gwon, chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland.

Amid predictions in the media that the North Korean leader's sister will likely deliver an invitation from Kim Jong-un for an inter-Korean summit, it remains to be seen if the deputy director of the propaganda department of the Workers' Party is carrying such a letter to President Moon.

The current visit marks the first time in eight and a half years a high-level North Korean delegation has come to the presidential office in Seoul. Kim Yo-jong's visit to the South is also the first time a member of North Korean founder Kim Il-song's family has crossed the inter-Korean border since the end of the 1950 Korean War.
