One-Day Parliamentary Session to Review Electoral Map Redrawing Bill

The parliament plans to hold a “one-point” extraordinary session next Monday to discuss, and possibly pass, a revision to the Public Official Election Act.

National Assembly Speaker Chung Sye-kyun said Friday it is holding a plenary session at 4 p.m. on Monday at the request of 255 lawmakers, including floor leaders from the ruling Democratic Party, the largest opposition Liberty Korea Party and the minor opposition Bareunmirae Party.

The key element of the bill is a plan for redrawing electoral districts in time for local elections in June. The parliament failed to pass the bill during February’s extraordinary session.

An official of the National Assembly said at the moment the rival parties have only agreed to hold a single-day extra session this month to deliberate on the bill, but it is up to them to further extend it.
