Report: White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders has backtracked on recent comments by U.S. national security adviser John Bolton that Libya could be a model for denuclearization talks with North Korea.

When asked about the model on Wednesday, Sanders said that she hadn't seen that as part of any discussions so she wasn’t aware that that was the model the U.S. is using.

She said the White House was following the "President Trump model," adding Trump is the best negotiator and he will run negotiations the way he sees fit.

North Korea has taken issue with Bolton’s comments from last month that the North should follow the "Libyan model" of denuclearization first, compensation second.

Following a threat by North Korea to pull out of the planned summit with Washington, Sanders said that the U.S. is still hopeful that the talks will take place. She added that the U.S. would "continue with the campaign of maximum pressure" if the summit is canceled.

Despite his comments on the North’s denuclearization model being downplayed, Bolton once again reaffirmed the U.S.’ commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea.

The security adviser said during an interview with Fox News Radio on Wednesday that the U.S. is committed to the goal of realizing the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the North.

Bolton also said that "there is nothing new" about North Korea's threat to pull out of the planned summit with the U.S, but added that the odds are still in favor of the talks going ahead.
