Parliament Reviews Extra Budget, Parties Bicker Over Rigging Scandal Probe Ahead of Vote

Lawmakers are continuing to discuss the government's extra budget proposal and a bill seeking to introduce a special counsel probe into an online rigging scandal as parliament is set to vote on the two bills on Friday in a plenary session.

With the plenary session set for 9 p.m. Friday, the parliamentary finance committee passed the government's proposal for a three-point-nine trillion won supplementary budget aimed at creating new jobs for the country's young adults. The bill will now be deliberated by the budget committee.

Rival parties are also at loggerheads over the scope of the independent probe into the online rigging scandal that is allegedly linked to Kim Kyoung-soo, the ruling Democratic Party's candidate for South Gyeongsang governor.

The ruling party wants a minimum 30-day investigation led by two aides to the special prosecutor but opposition parties are demanding a minimum 90-day probe with four aides.
