Report: A month after the historic U.S.-North Korea summit, President Moon Jae-in revealed a three-step roadmap for peace and prosperity for the Korean Peninsula and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN).

Speaking at a lecture in Singapore on Friday, Moon said the establishment of a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula would create new growth engines for countries in the region, including ASEAN members.

The president said that if a peace regime is put in place by the North fulfilling its denuclearization promises, economic cooperation in the region would launch in earnest and result in the creation of an inter-Korean economic community.

He said the establishment of peace on the peninsula would make Asia the most prosperous region in the world and would provide new growth engines for countries on the continent.

In that regard, Moon asked ASEAN to boost exchanges with the North and accept the reclusive state as part of the international community in the event Pyongyang takes sincere steps toward denuclearization.

In particular, Moon reiterated the need for swift denuclearization, saying that South Korea will continuously work with the international community to have the agreements reached at the inter-Korean summit and the Washington-Pyongyang summit remembered in history as accords that brought an end to the world's last cold war.

Moon said the process of denuclearizing the North is expected to be difficult but expressed confidence that the goal will be met if agreements reached during the latest summits are implemented sincerely.

He said he believes that efforts for denuclearization will gain speed if the North clarifies how it will go about denuclearizing while Seoul and Washington swiftly seek reciprocal steps.

Moon returns home on Friday after wrapping up his six-day tour to India and Singapore.
