Percentage of Male Teachers in Elementary Schools at 24.2%

The percentage of male teachers in the nation’s elementary schools was found to stand at less than 30 percent.

Democratic Party legislator Kim Choon-jin made the assessment on Monday after analyzing a report by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

Kim, who is a member of the parliamentary committee on education, found that out of some 180-thousand elementary school teachers, only 24-point-two percent were male teachers as of April.

By region, the percentage of male elementary school teachers stood at 15 percent in Seoul and 40-point-four percent in South Jeolla Province.

Thirty-nine elementary schools were estimated to have no male teachers.
