The eldest daughter of the alleged actual owner of the ill-fated Sewol ferry has been arrested in France on charges of illicit business activities.

Seoul's Justice Ministry said that the 48-year old Yoo Som-na was arrested in France Tuesday.

The South Korean authorities asked Interpol to arrest her as she is suspected of embezzling about eight-billion won from companies affiliated with her design firm.

Prosecutors investigating her father Yoo Byung-eon for his alleged responsibility for the deadly sinking of the ferry Sewol asked her last month to appear for questioning. However, as she refused to cooperate with the investigation, the prosecution received an arrest warrant for her and froze her passport. South Korea had also asked for Interpol's help in finding her.

The Justice Ministry said that it will promptly repatriate Yoo. She will have to undergo a repatriation trial in the European country.
