South Korea has officially delivered the site for the THAAD missile interceptors to the U.S. Force Korea(USFK).
The Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that the land transfer was completed under the Status of Forces Agreement(SOFA).
Following the land swap deal between the South Korean government and Lotte Group in February, the U.S. has been conducting an on-site survey on the roughly 30-thousand square meter area of land in the southeastern part of the country.
When the U.S. completes the layout of the envisioned THAAD base, South Korea will construct the facility in accordance with SOFA, which requires the host country to provide the USFK with infrastructure.
The Defense Ministry will soon begin a full-scale environmental inspection amid concerns about the electromagnetic waves from the battery's high-performance X-Band Radar.
