Moon Taps Acting Chief Justice to Lead Constitutional Court

President Moon Jae-in on Friday nominated a Constitutional Court justice as the court's new chief justice, a post left vacant since January.

Moon says Kim Yi-su has a strong will to defend the Constitution and human rights, and has consistently offered minority opinions on protecting the socially disadvantaged and implementing checks on state power.

Kim has been serving as acting chief of the Constitutional Court since former acting chief justice Lee Jung-mi retired in March.
If his nomination is approved by the National Assembly, Kim is expected to serve the remainder of the current chief justice tenure which ends in September next year.
