Anchor: South Korea has proposed inter-Korean military talks this week and Red Cross talks next month. Seoul is hoping to reduce military tension in the demilitarized zone and arrange reunions of war-separated families. The move came after President Moon Jae-in’s peace offers in his speech in Berlin earlier this month.
Kim Bum-soo has more.

Report: Vice Defense Minister Suh Choo-suk proposed that the two sides meet on Friday at the North's side of the Panmunjeom truce village, hinting that Seoul may be willing to suspend anti-North broadcasts in the demilitarized zone.

In a news conference on Monday, he suggested that the two Koreas' militaries discuss ways to end all hostile acts near the border.

In the meantime in a separate news conference, the acting president of the South Korean Red Cross, Kim Sun-hyang, proposed a meeting on August first at the South's side of Panmunjeom to arrange family reunions this fall.

In his speech in Berlin, South Korean President Moon Jae-in proposed the two sides hold family reunions during the Chuseok holiday on October fourth.

This year's lunar calendar holiday coincides with the anniversary of an inter-Korean statement late former President Roh Moo-hyun and late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il produced in 2007.

Moon also suggested the two Koreas stop hostile acts in the border region starting on the 64th anniversary of the Armistice Agreement on July 27th.

If the North accepts the offer to meet on Friday, it would mark the first inter-Korean government-level talks since December 2015.

Seoul is waiting for the North's response via a military communication line and a liaison office in the truce village.
