Report: As the U.S. president intensifies his warnings against Pyongyang, the South Korean and U.S. national security advisers have ensured that no one side will make a sudden move without prior consultations.

Presidential national security chief Chung Eui-yong and his U.S. counterpart Herbert McMaster discussed the North Korea concern over the phone for 40 minutes Friday morning.

Seoul's presidential office said that the security chiefs reaffirmed their commitment to work together closely and transparently to carry out step-by-step measures to ensure national security and the safety of their people.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior Seoul official said that Seoul has already been working closely with related countries shortly after the North issued its threats against Guam.

The official explained the disclosure of Friday’s telephone conversation is to alleviate concerns that South Korea is not taking an active enough role amid the mounting tensions.

The official said that President Moon Jae-in is going over the ramifications of a possible South Korean intervention in the verbal exchange between Washington and Pyongyang.

The official added that it would be most wise for the South Korean president to issue a response after accurately determining Washington and Pyongyang’s intentions, adding that now is the time to strategically assess the situation.
