Moon Names Judicial Training Institute Chief as Head of State Auditor

President Moon Jae-in on Thursday named a judicial officer as the new head of the Board of Audit and Inspection.

If the National Assembly approves the appointment of Choi Jae-hyung, the state audit agency is expected to normalize operations following a vacuum in leadership that resulted after former chairman Hwang Chan-hyun retired last Friday.

Sixty-one-year-old Choi who hails from Jinhae, South Gyeongsang Province currently heads the Judicial Research and Training Institute.

If he is appointed following a parliamentary confirmation hearing and approval, Choi will begin a four-year term.

He studied law at Seoul National University and served as chief of the Daejeon District Court and the Seoul Family Court as well as a senior judge at the Seoul High Court.
