Foreign Minister to Attend International Meeting in Vancouver

Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha will attend a meeting of foreign ministers set to open in Vancouver on Tuesday.

Seoul's Foreign Ministry Friday confirmed Kang's attendance at the Vancouver Foreign Ministers' Meeting on Security and Stability on the Korean Peninsula.

During the meeting, Kang will share the outcomes of the inter-Korean talks with the other participants and also discuss with them diplomatic solutions to the North Korean nuclear issue.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Kang plans to hold bilateral talks with her counterparts of major countries to discuss their issues of mutual interests.

During a telephone conversation earlier in the day, Kang and U.S. State Secretary Rex Tillerson agreed to have a bilateral meeting in Vancouver. It is likely she will also sit down for talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono.

The Vancouver meeting, cohosted by the U.S. and Canada, will discuss diplomatic efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue.

The countries invited to send representatives to the meeting are the so-called "Sending Powers," countries which contributed troops or aid to the UN war effort during the Korean War. Japan, India and Sweden will also participate in the meeting.
