N. Korea Proposes Working-Level Talks to Discuss Sending Performing Artists

North Korea has proposed working-level talks with the South to discuss sending performing artists to the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games.

Seoul's Unification Ministry said Saturday that the North offered to hold the talks on Monday on the North Korean side of the Panmunjeom border village.

The offer comes a day after Seoul proposed holding working-level talks on Monday on the South Korean side of Panmunjeom to discuss the North's participation in the games.

The ministry said the message was signed by North Korea's chief delegate to the recent high-level inter-Korean talks Ri Son-gwon and addressed to Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon. Ri is chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, the state agency in charge of inter-Korean affairs.

The North proposed a four-member delegation to the talks led by director of the culture ministry's art performance bureau Kwon Hyok-bong.

The North said it will inform the South of a date to discuss sending athletes and a cheering squad to the PyeongChang Olympics at a later time.

The Unification Ministry said it will make a reply after reviewing the proposal.
