'Seoul to Experience 67 Days of Lethal Heat in 2100'

New analysis says the global risk of death due to extreme heat is expected to rise over the next several decades.

Analyzing 783 cases of deaths due to extreme heat in 164 cities in 36 countries since 1980, a research team calculated the temperature and humidity conditions of lethal heat.

The research team led by Camilo Mora, an ecologist at the University of Hawaii, published its findings in the journal Nature Climate Change on Monday.

According to the research, the number of days of lethal heat in Seoul is expected to grow from zero in 2020 to seven days in 2050, 35 days in 2075 and 67 days in 2100 if greenhouse gas emissions continue to increase at the current rate.

The researchers estimated that London will experience zero days of lethal heat in 2100, but forecast 48 days for Beijing, 53 days for New York and 110 days for Sao Paulo.
