Netizens have been going wild over news that singer Rain (Jung Ji-hoon) is set to appear in the Wachowski Brothers’ blockbuster film adaptation of the Japanese Manga series Speed Racer.
An associate of Rain said in a phone interview with Joseon.com Wednesday that the singer had met with the Wachowski brothers to discuss the new movie and was impressed by the script. The Wachowski Brothers are the writers and directors of the sci-fi blockbuster Matrix series. News quickly spread on the internet and the movie was quickly the most searched item online.
The film adaptation will star Emile Hirsch as the young racing phenom, Speed Racer, Christina Ricci as his girlfriend, Trixie, and Matthew Fox as his nemesis, Racer X. Other big names like Susan Sarandon and John Goodman are set to appear in the movie. Rain will reportedly play a rookie car racer in his second movie role (his first was the lead role in Park Chan-wook’s critically-acclaimed film “I’m A Cyborg, But That’s Ok”).
Speed Racer is based on the popular 1960s Japanese animation series Mach Go Go Go, which follows a young aspiring car racer as he attempts to gain glory with the help of Mach 5, a car created by his father.
Rain will fly to the movie’s location in Berlin after wrapping up his world tour. The movie will begin filming in early June and is set for release on May 9th, 2008.
