The 4th Industrial Revolution Lands on Korean Peninsula

South Korea is moving fast to preemptively respond to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution refers to a revolution led by a range of new technologies that combine information and communication technology(ICT). In such a revolution, artificial intelligence(AI) and robot technology are applied to all industries, causing a fundamental change in the economic, social and cultural system.

Projections for such a revolution expect people will be banned from driving cars due to the introduction of self-driving electronic cars and that diesel-and gasoline-powered vehicles will disappear.

With such changes predicted, the government and related industries have rushed to come up with measures to swiftly adapt.

Efforts are being made to secure a workforce for the Fourth Industrial Revolution as existing jobs will disappear and new jobs will be created with the changes.

To that end, the government unveiled plans to create 260-thousand jobs related to ICT as well as science and technology over the next five years. The government is also aiming to revamp industries to be innovation and growth-oriented.

The Ministry of Science and ICT has revealed a ten-year plan to develop drones and self-driving cars among other technologies related to unmanned vehicles by 2030.

The government and business sector are working to foster key industries and create promising new industries upon the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
