“Jungle Fish,” a KBS 2TV youth drama, was included in the list of 36 Peabody Awards winners announced on April 1. This is the second Peabody Award garnered by Korea, following the 2000 winner, “An 82-Year-Old Young Man Lives in the Cabin” produced by KBS Cheongju.

Aired in May 2008, “Jungle Fish” shed light on the serious socio-educational issue of grade falsification. It was applauded for employing a new direction method at the time. The Peabody Awards’ online site describes “Jungle Fish” as “interactive blogging was integral to the plot of this handsome film, a stylized slice of life among students at a ruthlessly competitive South Korean high school.” The drama has won other prestigious awards, such as the best youth drama at the Seoul Drama Festival and an Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Prize.

Often lauded as the Pulitzer Prize of broadcasting, the Peabody Awards was established in 1940 and is the oldest and most prestigious honor in electronic media. The international awards spotlights distinguished achievements in TV and radio programs.
