A court has granted an injunction filed by Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl to halt the two-month suspension he received from a Justice Ministry disciplinary panel.

The Seoul Administrative Court made the decision on Thursday night, hours after wrapping up a second hearing on the matter and accepting the argument that the suspension has caused irreparable damage to Yoon.

The court lifted the suspension, effective as of Thursday night until 30 days after it issues a verdict on the lawsuit to withdraw the punishment. This effectively dismisses the disciplinary measures as it’s been deemed too difficult to finish deliberations by July when Yoon’s term ends.

The unprecedented suspension of a sitting prosecutor general was announced on December 16 with the Justice Ministry's disciplinary committee declaring Yoon guilty of four out of six counts of ethical and legal misconduct. The counts included the illegal surveillance of judges presiding over cases involving ruling camp figures.
