Expression of the Week

Song Geu-rim:지수호씨 언제 한번 저희 프로그램 게스트로 나와 주세요.

Soo-ho, please make an appearance on our program as a guest.

Ji Soo-ho:불러주시면 저야 영광이죠.

It would be an honor if you called me.

Song Geu-rim:언제 시간이 괜찮으신지 말씀해 주시면

If you let me know what time is convenient,

저도 영광일 거 같은데.

it would be an honor for me, too.

Ji Soo-ho:프로그램 이름이 혹시...

By chance, is the program called…

Song Geu-rim:미누의 행복한 여섯시요!

Minu’s Happy Six o’clock!

저야 영광이죠 (It would be an honor)

저 – pronoun I; me (the humble or casual form used by the speaker to refer to himself/herself for the purpose of showing humility to the listener)

~야 – postpositional particle used to emphasize the preceding word

영광 – (n.) glory

Casual – 나야 영광이지

Semi-polite – 저야 영광이죠

Polite – 영광입니다.

>> “저야” means “for me” with an emphasis on “me” thanks to the postpositional particle “~야.” “영광이죠” means “it would be an honor”. In other words, with the emphasis on “me,” the speaker is emphasizing that he appreciates the offer and the honor is HIS and not the other person’s.

>>In the dialogue, “불러주시면” literally means “to call for or call out for,” but in context it means if you ask me to make an appearance on the radio show.
