A court has again ruled against the detention of former Justice Minister Park Sung-jae, who is accused of aiding insurrection in connection with the December 3 martial law declaration.

The Seoul Central District Court made the ruling early Friday after a detention hearing the previous day, saying that even with the additional charges and evidence submitted since the prior denial, the allegations remain disputable.

The court also said Park does not pose a flight risk and is unlikely to tamper with evidence.

The special counsel team investigating the martial law declaration requested Park's detention on October 9 on charges of aiding insurrection, abuse of power and obstruction of rights, but the court rejected that request on October 15.

Prosecutors say Park convened a meeting of senior justice ministry officials shortly after Yoon’s declaration and ordered the dispatch of prosecutors to the joint investigation headquarters established under martial law command.

They also believe Yoon placed a team at the Korea Immigration Service on standby to enforce travel bans and ordered the Korea Correctional Service to assess available detention capacity.
