President Lee Jae Myung will head to South Africa next week to attend the Group of 20(G20) summit.
Lee is scheduled to depart on November 17 for a 10-day trip that will include a stop at the G20 summit, hosted by South Africa, as well as visits to the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Türkiye.
National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac said in a briefing on Friday that Lee will first visit the UAE from Monday to Wednesday of next week, then make an official visit to Egypt from November 19-21 before heading to South Africa from November 21-23.
After the G20, Lee will make a state visit to Türkiye from November 24-25.
Wi said Lee will attend the first session of the G20 on November 22, which will cover economic growth and development support under the theme of Inclusive Sustainable Growth. He will then attend a second session on disaster risk mitigation and climate change, and a third session on innovation, jobs and artificial intelligence, themed around a fair future.
The advisor said Lee will express solidarity, cooperation and a willingness to contribute to the development of South Africa and the rest of the continent.
Wi added that Lee's visits to the UAE, Egypt and Türkiye will grow mutually beneficial cooperation and confirm mutual support for peace on the Korean Peninsula and in the Middle East.
He also expects the trip to promote investment and trade, deliver practical results in tech and health care and open the door to expanded cultural exchange.
South Korea is set to host the Group of 20 summit in 2028, marking the forum's 20th anniversary.
