The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that e-commerce giant Coupang was breached between June 24 last year and November 8 this year, exposing a trove of user information.

During a session of the parliamentary Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee on Tuesday, Second Vice Minister Ryu Je-myung said that more than 30 million accounts had been compromised between July 2024 and November 2025, based on an analysis of system logs.

Ryu said an attacker had accessed and leaked data multiple times without logging in, and that the encryption key used to issue and verify server access had been compromised.

When asked about allegations that a former Chinese employee in charge of authentication was behind the breach, the vice minister said the person's identity would need to be verified during a police investigation.

He also said that an unidentified person had emailed Coupang, claiming they had leaked 30 million pieces of personal information, including emails and delivery addresses.
