Gov't to Send 250 PKO Troops to Haiti

The government is planning to send about 250 troops to Haiti in early March as part of U.N. peacekeeping operations (PKO).

To that end, the government will send to the quake-stricken country next week a group of ten officials from the ministries of foreign affairs and defense to assess area conditions for its PKO troop dispatch.

The government will submit next month a motion for the troop deployment based on the group's inspection results.

Meanwhile, a second group of Korean disaster relief workers has arrived in Haiti and has launched relief efforts.

The relief team, comprised of 18 doctors and nurses from the National Medical Center and the Korean Foundation for International Health Care, is seeking to set up a medical clinic in Haiti's capital of Port-au-Prince.
