Haiti Requests More Assistance from S.Korea

Haiti has officially requested South Korea’s additional participation in recovery and reconstruction efforts following the massive earthquake that hit the Caribbean nation.

Haitian government officials made the request during a meeting with the Korean ambassador to the Dominican Republic Kang Seong-ju.

The Haitian officials also asked for Seoul to impart some of its experience in developing new cities and thanked Korea for the assistance it has provided thus far.

ESD Korea, which operates out of the Dominican Republic, has been working to supply electricity to some regions in Haiti, while seven or eight local Korean sewing companies, including Willbes, have resumed normal operations at their factories.

The Korean government has currently decided to provide ten million dollars in relief to Haiti and plans to actively participate in restoring its electric power grid and the drinking water supply network.
