‘Seoul Not Ready to Send Cheonan Issue to UNSC’

Vice Foreign Minister Chun Young-woo says the “Cheonan” incident will not be referred to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) until after the UNSC member nations are ready to discuss the issue.

Chun, who is currently visiting New York for a dinner to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, told Korean correspondents Wednesday that it is not imperative that the issue be immediately referred to the UNSC chair.

The vice minister said that the timing of when the issue will be sent to the UNSC will come after South Korea meets with all the members of the council.

A senior official at the South Korean mission to the U.N. hinted that Seoul could send the Cheonan issue to the UNSC sometime after June seventh. South Korea had originally been expected to do so before June fifth.
