The U.S. says it supports South Korea's decision to bring the "Cheonan incident" to the U.N. Security Council.

U.S. State Department spokesman Philip Crowley made the remark Friday, adding that in the coming days, the council has the opportunity to consider the issue and an appropriate response.
Crowley said that at this point, no one has a specific idea of exactly what the response should be.

He noted that Seoul has indicated that it wants the council to act appropriately, given the severity of the North Korean sinking of the Cheonan.
