The Voice of America says former Indonesian attorney-general Marzuki Darusman will most likely become the next U.N. Special Rapporteur on North Korean human rights.

Citing diplomatic sources, VOA says that Darusman is widely recognized by the U.N. as a suitable candidate and that his nationality is also an advantage.

Four other candidates are also being considered for the post. The U.N. will announce the appointment on June 18th.

The incumbent Special Rapporteur on North Korean human rights, Vitit Muntarbhorn, was appointed in 2004. However, he has never visited North Korea due to opposition from Pyongyang.
