President Lee Myung-bak held a summit with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Saturday in the Southeast Asian nation.
During their meeting, President Lee explained the results of the Seoul-led international probe on the sinking of the “Cheonan” and the direction of the South Korean government’s response.
Prime Minister Lee vowed to support the South Korean government and to proactively cooperate with punitive measures taken by the international community to address the sinking of South Korea’s warship.
The two leaders also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on medical care and joint developmental cooperation during the meeting held at the Singaporean presidential office.
President Lee said in his keynote address Friday at the ninth Shangri-La Dialogue, an annual regional security forum, that the Cheonan incident is a serious problem on which hinges the peace and stability of the entire Northeast Asian region and is also a grave threat to world peace. He stressed that all members of the international community, including participating countries in the six-party talks, must actively have a hand in resolving the incident.
President Lee also attended a meeting with business leaders in Singapore on Saturday morning, where he said that an all-out inter-Korean war would never arise.
