Source: UNSC Opens Unofficial Discussions on Cheonan

A diplomatic source in Mexico says the U.N. Security Council has begun unofficial discussions on the “Cheonan” naval incident.

The source said Tuesday that Mexican Ambassador to the U.N. Claude Heller, who currently holds the Security Council presidency, recently held individual meetings with ambassadors from South Korea as well as the U.S., China and France --- all three of which are permanent members of the Security Council.

Heller reportedly plans to meet with ambassadors from the other two permanent Security Council members, Russia and the United Kingdom, on Tuesday to share views on the Cheonan incident.

Seoul requested that the Cheonan incident be addressed at the council in a letter sent to Heller last Friday.
