UNSC to Begin Official Talks on Cheonan This Wk

The U.N. Security Council is expected to begin official talks on response measures to the "Cheonan" incident after being briefed on the results of a South Korea-led international investigation early Tuesday morning Korea time.

Immediately following the briefing, Claude Heller, the Mexican Ambassador to the United Nations who is the rotating president of the 15-member council, will lead a closed-door meeting of council representatives known as a “mutual dialogue.”

The council is expected to hold open talks later.

South Korea is reportedly coordinating with key members a message condemning North Korea, be it a resolution or a chairman's statement.

China, a veto-wielding UNSC member, is reportedly opposed to adopting a resolution imposing additional sanctions on North Korea.
