KFDA: 'Travelers to Africa Must Take Anti-Malaria Vaccine'

The Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) says visitors to Africa must take anti-malaria drugs. It cited reports of severe cases of Falciparum malaria, the most dangerous type of the disease, in Nigeria as well as in the Republic of South Africa, which is currently hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

In addition, the KFDA says that individuals who take malaria vaccines must first confirm the type of malaria parasites in the region to ensure that their anti-malaria drugs will be effective.

The agency added that since early symptoms of malaria may not appear to be serious, travelers who develop a fever within one week of arriving in a malarial region must see a doctor.
