South Africa's President Jacob Zuma has called for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. He says true stability is impossible by military means or the development of a nuclear weapons program.

In an interview with Yonhap News at the South African presidential office in the administrative capital of Pretoria, Zuma stressed that his country had steadily called for the resumption of multilateral denuclearization talks and the dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear program.

The comment by the South African president, who maintains an equal-distance diplomacy in inter-Korean affairs, appears to be an expression of support for South Korean efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.

On the sinking of the South Korean naval warship, "Cheonan," Zuma said he is watching the situation with deep concern and urged the two Koreas to refrain from actions or comments that could heighten tensions.
