Fmr Japanese Sex Slaves Seek Support of S.Korea Lawmakers

Representatives from the Korean Council for the Women Drafted for Military Sexual Slavery by Japan and two elderly former sex slaves visited the offices of National Assembly members in Seoul on Friday.

They asked for lawmakers’ support on a 500-thousand signature campaign to urge compensation for the estimated 200-thousand girls and young women who were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese army during the years preceding and during World War II.

The council said three legislators had participated in the campaign on Friday.

The organization plans to collect 500-thousand signatures by September, when Japan's ordinary parliamentary session opens. The members plan to deliver the signatures to the legislative and executive branches of the Japanese government.
