Congress to Adopt Resolution on Korean War Anniversary

The U.S. Senate and House of Representatives have respectively adopted a resolution marking the 60th anniversary of the Korean War.

The Senate passed the resolution on Wednesday and the House of Representatives on Thursday. The two chambers plan to adopt a joint resolution next week, at which point it will be sent to the White House for President Barack Obama’s signature.

Unlike an ordinary resolution, a joint resolution requires the president’s signature. Once signed by the president, it has the force of law.

The resolutions adopted by the Senate and the House of Representatives underlined the historical significance of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War and both vowed never to forget the sacrifices that were made by those who fought in the war. The resolutions also paid tribute to the devotion of U.S. forces and America's allies who fought to secure South Korea’s security.
