US Considers Statement on Korean War Anniversary

The U.S. is considering releasing a statement by President Barack Obama to recognize the 60th anniversary of the Korean War's outbreak and stress its bilateral alliance with South Korea.

An Obama administration official says a presidential declaration or a statement to mark the anniversary is under internal review.

Sources say Obama will mention the Korean War and the bilateral alliance in his upcoming summit with President Lee Myung-bak June 26th on the sidelines of the Group of 20 Summit in Toronto.

Congressional members have also urged their president to make such a statement separate from efforts to adopt a joint resolution on the Korean War anniversary.
