Brazil's Ambassador to North Korea Arnaldo Carrilho has voiced opposition to additional sanctions against North Korea, saying the sanctions would only be counterproductive as it would fail to solve social and security issues. According to Carrilho, Brazil aims to broaden its dialogue with the North to include security matters on the Korean peninsula.

In an interview with Reuters on Tuesday, the envoy said that Brazil plans to expand its relations and trade with the North and is about to send some 100-thousand tons of food aid.

Brazil, the second largest trading partner of North Korea, opened its embassy in the communist country last year.
