Chinese Daily Removes Article Stating NK Started Korean War

A Chinese daily has apparently removed an online article acknowledging North Korea as the instigator of the Korean War.

The International Herald Leader, which is a sister daily of China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency, issued a special story on the 60th anniversary of the Korean War on Thursday.

The report covered the process of how the Korean War started in 1950 and ended in 1953. The article said that on June 25, 1950, North Korean forces crossed the 38th parallel line and launched attacks, leading to the fall of Seoul in just three days.

However, the recent report currently cannot be found on the daily's Web site and links to the story in other media have also been suspended. The daily apparently omitted the article's online version shortly after posting it.

China's government does not recognize the Korean War as a war that was started by the North. Chinese textbooks claim that Chinese forces took part in the Korean War after U.N. forces crossed the 38th parallel, thus posing a threat to China’s border.
