Commemorative events marking the 60th anniversary of the Korean War were held nationwide and around the world.
They are intended to give a new perspective to the meaning of the Korean War and to remember the spirit of those who sacrificed their lives. June 25th this year marks the 60th anniversary.
The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs held a 60th anniversary event Friday morning with some five thousand people attending. They included top-level government figures, politicians, Korean and foreign veterans, diplomatic corps, the media and students.
Local governments also held commemorative events with veterans in attendance.
In other countries, the governments of nations that sent troops during the war along with Korean missions in those nations also held events. Overseas Korean missions will invite some 16-thousand veterans and other key figures to events to remember and express gratitude in June and July.
The Department of Defense and the U.S. Congress held 60th anniversary ceremonies at the Pentagon and on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. on Thursday morning local time.
