A reception and a performance were held to remember and express gratitude for the sacrifice of U.S. troops in the Korean War on Tuesday local time in Atlanta.

It is one of many similar events that are taking place to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War.

Some 80 Korean War veterans in the U.S. state of Georgia attended the reception that was hosted by the Korean Consulate General in Atlanta. The chief of the Korean association in Atlanta Eun Jong-guk and Georgia governor Sonny Perdue were also in attendance.

Consul General in Atlanta Chun Hae-jin said in the opening remarks that Koreans remember the sacrifices of U.S. soldiers, to which South Korea owes its development.

Governor Perdue said that South Korea built liberty, democracy and prosperity from the devastation of war and that South Korea and the U.S. enjoy an exemplary alliance.
