Russian Experts Near Completion of Cheonan Report

The Russian Foreign Ministry says a team of Russian experts are almost done drawing up an independent report on the sinking of the “Cheonan” naval ship.

The ministry’s spokesman, Andrei Nesterenko, said Friday that the experts are putting the finishing touches on their final report on the naval incident. He said that the report will be submitted to Russia’s top officials, after which Moscow will decide what measures to take on the matter.

The four-member team visited South Korea in late May and analyzed the materials and evidence collected by the military-civilian joint probe team that investigated the sinking of the Cheonan. The Russian experts returned home last month.

Some foreign media are reporting that the Russian experts believe it cannot be concluded that North Korea was behind the sinking of the Cheonan.
