UN Food Aid to NK to Run Short in Sep.

The U.N. World Food Program (WFP) says it will likely run short of food aid for North Korea in September.

In an e-mail interview with Radio Free Asia, WFP spokeswoman Lena Savelli said that all aid provisions for North Korea will run out by that time due to a drop in international aid contributions.

She said that although the U.N. recently began a project to improve the nutritional status of two-point-five million North Korean children and pregnant women, it has only secured one percent of the budget for the program.

She said if no new donor countries come forward before September, the agency will have to scale down its North Korean aid projects.
