US Extends Term of Radio Free Asia

The U.S. Congress has passed a measure that makes broadcasts of freedom and democracy aimed at North Korea a mainstay.

Congress vowed on Friday to permanently support Radio Free Asia (RFA), whose purpose is to deliver news of the outside world to people in autocratic nations.

The U.S. House of Representatives held a general meeting and scrapped the regulation that would have put an end to Radio Free Asia’s operations in September. A new bill has reportedly been signed by President Barack Obama that will make the radio station a permanent fixture.

RFA was founded in 1996 as a nonprofit, public interest broadcaster aimed at promoting democracy in countries run by dictatorships that have restricted the freedom of the press.
