'UNSC Draft Reflects S.Korea's Stance'

A South Korean government official says the draft of a U.N. Security Council presidential statement directly and indirectly reflects to a considerable extent Seoul’s stance on the sinking of the “Cheonan.”

The government official told reporters Friday that the statement plays in Seoul’s favor as it says the Cheonan sank due to an attack and it expresses deep concerns when considering the results of the joint probe into the ship’s sinking.

In addition, Seoul looks favorably on the statement’s emphasis on the importance of preventing additional attacks on South Korea.

Although China and Russia have been hesitant in regards to a U.N. Security Council response, soliciting their agreement to the draft is highly meaningful as it has elicited a unified message from the international community.
