China Urges Resumption of Six-Party Nuke Talks

China has urged Tuesday the resumption of the six-party denuclearization talks.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Qin Gang told reporters that Beijing wants a quick resumption of the multilateral talks. The statement was a response to a question on whether China had specific plans to resume the talks. However, he refused to give a clear answer to a question on whether a Chinese official plans to visit North Korea.

He stressed repeatedly that the six-way talks are a realistic and effective tool for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and for the long-term stability of Northeast Asia.

He said that the inter-Korean issue cannot be fundamentally resolved by military force. Instead, he said the interested parties must provide much assistance to promote reconciliation and peace for regional stability and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
