A survey by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences finds that New York City ranks first worldwide in terms of competitiveness.

The Hong Kong daily “Wenweipo” reported on the study, which rated Tokyo third overall, the highest of any Asian city. Seoul came in ninth.

Other cities in the top ten were Singapore, London, Paris, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

The research institute that conducted the evaluation said Asian cities --- including Singapore, Seoul, Hong Kong, Taipei and Shanghai --- are rapidly gaining in competitiveness.
