A United Nations study reportedly shows that North Korea is evading U.N. sanctions on firms that have been found to have engaged in illegal operations.

Japanese media outlets, including the Asahi Shimbun, say North Korea is sidestepping U.N. sanctions citing a report submitted by an expert group established under the U.N. Security Council committee on North Korea sanctions.

The study, submitted in May, says that North Korea is using all possible ways to avoid sanctions and to continue weapons exports, such as by transferring the trade operations of a company placed on the sanctions blacklist to a different firm.

The expert group reportedly says the U.N. has underestimated the North Korean companies and individuals placed on the sanctions list.
