RFA: OCHA to Provide $5 Mln in Relief Funds to NK

Radio Free Asia says the United Nations plans to provide five million dollars in emergency relief funds to North Korea in the second half of the year.

According to the broadcaster, the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) decided last Friday to provide the relief funds from the Central Emergency Respond Fund to Pyongyang to support U.N. agencies’ projects in the communist state. Such projects have been struggling due to a drop in aid to the North from the international community.

The Central Emergency Respond Fund plans to provide around 41 million dollars in relief funds to nine countries in the second half of the year, including North Korea. The North is likely to receive the third largest amount of funds after the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Yemen.
