Daniel Glaser, the U.S. Treasury Department's Deputy Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes, is expected to accompany U.S. coordinator of North Korea sanctions Robert Einhorn to South Korea early next week.
Glaser will reportedly meet with South Korea’s foreign and finance ministries and financial regulators to share information on illicit acts and financial transaction data by North Korea. He is also expected to seek ways for South Korea and the U.S. to cooperate in further enforcing financial sanctions on the North.
Glaser led the operations that uncovered 25 million dollars in illegal funds held by North Korea at the Macau-based Banco Delta Asia (BDA) in September 2005.
Einhorn’s team on North Korea sanctions will include large numbers of officials from the state, defense and treasury departments of the U.S.
The group is slated to make stops in Japan, Malaysia and Singapore after visiting Seoul.
